Two Exciting News Items

We are extremely excited to learn that a new nonprofit, the Maasai Education Society (MES), was just approved by the Canadian Revenue Authority, to help support the Engaruka English Medium Primary School (EEMPS). This is great news for Canadian donors to MEF because they will now be able to donate to MES and potentially receive Canadian tax deductions. Our understanding is that MES will focus on providing sponsorships for children attending EEMPS. As soon as MES has a functioning website, donation page, Facebook page and other social media links, we will provide a link to them. We congratulate Audrey Spielmann, who worked with others in Canada for over two years on MES’s nonprofit approval.

Boys’ Dormitory Construction: Work has started on a boys’ dormitory at EEMPS. Three of the dormitory’s four wings are now under construction. The footers and foundation walls have been completed and the concrete floors are being poured and soon the stone walls will start going up. A group of 11 Virginia Tech students and advisors will travel to the school in mid-May to assist in the construction.
