Our MEF 2024 Mid-Year Matching Fundraiser was a huge success due to your continued generosity. The MEF Board Members and children at the Engaruka English Medium Primary School (EEMPS) thank those that donated during the fundraiser as well as those that donate at other times of the year. Our goal was $35,000 and we received $39,503.06. In addition, we received $10,000 in pledged matching funds for a total of $49,503.06.
We sent $40,000 in sponsorship/operating funds to the school last week to fulfill our 2024 commitment to the school. We will send approximately $66,000 to the school for the next phase of the boys’ dormitory construction as soon as we receive confirmation that the boys’ dormitory walls are complete and that some maintenance work was completed on the girls’ dormitory. They will then start work on the boys’ dormitory roof, plumbing, and electrical systems. We now have all the funds required to complete the three boys’ dormitory wings.

ENCO Tanzania Fundraiser Results: We are also excited to report that the Engaruka Community Initiative Organization (ENCO) held a fundraiser to support the construction of a proposed Engaruka Secondary School on the grounds of EEMPS. They raised almost $40,000 from EEMPS parents, Tanzania businesses, and others that will be used to construct the first few classrooms of the proposed secondary school. The secondary school is being built for the 7th grade EEMPS students and others that will graduate in December. MEF has not been involved in the secondary school discussions and planning but we will try to learn more and share what we learn in the next MEF newsletter.

Our goal was $35,000 with $25,000 going towards the Engaruka English Medium Primary School’s (EEMPS) 2024 operating costs and $10,000 to complete MEF’s $188,253 funding commitment for the new boys’ dormitory. EEMPS currently has 275 students in pre-school through 7th grade. Three-fourths of our students are charity students for families that can not afford the $700/year cost of tuition, room and board. The school consistently ranks in the top 10% of primary schools in Tanzania academically according to national tests. We received a matching fund commitment of $10,000 for the first $10,000 in donations. The matching fund donors have designated the matching funds for EEMPS child sponsorships and operating funds. The fundraiser ended July 15.
